As we do quite often we stayed out-of-town the night before at a free camp, woke up reasonably early and parked close to the ocean (and toilet) to have breaky. This morning we find ourselves at little cove beach with lot of local retired people, mainly in their 70’s towards 80’s out for their morning swim. The oldies were everywhere with their dogs and snorkels, a real early morning (7am) community catch up but mainly centred om the swimming and exercise. It wasnt until we were leaving that we realise that the name of this precious little paradise is “Granny’s Pool”.

Just a bit further down the road (5kms) from here is Cape Leeuwin, this is where the southern and Indian oceans meet, unfortunately last night a bush fire started and resulted in the whole area being closed down, this meant that we couldn’t visit the lighthouse and the water wheel, perhaps next time. We did however get to see the aerial water bombers in action. Their were 5 planes involved, 1 that continually circled high in the air and from what we can figure out was traffic control, and then 4 other small aircraft that would land at the local runway, be filled with water, and join the circuit and dump their load. Sad to have a fire, but great to see the ariel fire fighters in action.
We did the Jewel Cave tour which was really good, we have been through several caves over the years and have never been disappointed.

Heading north from here towards Margaret river there are what look to be some nice spots, however the unrelenting wind, really made it a bit more difficult to enjoy, Hamelin bay has a nice short boardwalk, and Cosy corner had a steep sandy track down to the beach, it was hear that we got to spot some stingrays doing laps up and down the shallow water of the beach. unfortunately the wind made the surf a bit choppy to see them really well, we decided to stay the night hoping that the next day would provide better weather.

The wind didn’t stop, MIA was dancing most of the night and the view into the ocean the next morning was no better, time to move.
